9th Annual Grant-A-Starr Foundation Family Fun Run
The 9th Annual Grant-A-Starr Foundation Family 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is back again with a board of exemplary teens looking forward to organizing another successful event to celebrate the life of Grant Starr. The event will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, and will include both a 5K chip timed race on the USATF course and a 1-mile event. A community oriented post-race party will follow the awards presentation. As always, there will be plenty of food, freebies, and fun for the whole family.
Celebrating the life of their son, Grant, an amazing seven-year-old boy who passed away from an unidentified virus the summer before he began second grade; Dolores and Rod Starr founded the Grant-A-Starr Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit organization created solely for the purpose of saving children's lives through the advancement of rapid detection of life-threatening childhood infections, such as encephalitis and meningitis. The foundation provides financial support to Houston-based research projects that are dedicated to the development of rapid diagnostic testing that will reduce the time required to identify an illness and ultimately save children's lives.

One part of the Grant-A-Starr Foundation Fun Run that is vital to the organization of the race is the student steering committee. The committee is made from local high school volunteers who have taken a deep personal interest in the event. This year's Teen Board President is Rachel Wang, a senior at Clements High School ,and the former Vice President of last years committee , says "she hopes to raise awareness for this cause because it'll benefit the money that goes towards research at Children's Memorial Hermann and Texas Children's Hospital. My goal is to raise $50,000 because we've always been so close to raising that amount. I also want to continue to raise awareness for this cause because it does so much good in the community".
A team entry consists of a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 participants per team. This event is also open to all Fort Bend ISD Schools and provides a variety of incentives for the participating schools. Please contact Duyen Le (713) 515-5733 for more team and school information.
The annual Fun Run event attracts over 600 participants from Sugar Land and the greater Fort Bend County. A sponsorship will promote your organization in this fast-growing community as well as provide critical support to the Grant-A-Starr Foundation mission.
